Following many hours of consultation and preparation by officers from Raleigh police and animal control, in the end a glue trap captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.

It was taken to a safer location to be fully cleaned after it was guided into the bucket and guided out.

An earlier video interview had captured a striped snake crawling onto a porch on Sandringham Drive from the siding of a house. Looking around, its hood was visible as it lifted its head.

After confirming it was a snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back of the area and attempted to capture it there.

On Tuesday, police searched the same home after receiving a 911 call there.

N.C., and Raleigh, N.C. Despite hours of consultation and preparation of law enforcement and animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping an event that garnered attention throughout the state.

The cobra was guided into a red bucket and taken to a safe location so the glue could be completely removed.

Camera crews were moved back after the officers confirmed it was the snake before attempting to catch it.

Early Tuesday, early Tuesday morning, a 911 call from inside the same house sparked the search.

Joan Nelson expressed relief that the ordeal is over.

A zebra cobra, which can spit up to nine feet, is faster than most snakes, so even a morning stroll with the dog becomes a fearsome event. The African Snakebite Institute reports that this snake is very dangerous. The venom can cause the nervous system to shut down.

One who is poisoned by the cobra would immediately feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. In the aftermath, a severe fever and breathing problems would ensue, which could eventually lead to respiratory failure.

Salina Locke is an experienced veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, where she treats all types of pets.

The cobra species in this group doesn't typically bite. Generally, they squirt their venom a lot and shoot straight for the eyes, she said.

Despite the risks involved, Locke doesn't recommend buying this snake for a pet.

Most bites occur while people are sleeping. Research indicates people who are bit can suffer health issues for a long time.

In the afternoon of Tuesday, police searched a home in 6917 Chamonix Place, near the spot where the cobra was first spotted.

Four officers were dispatched to that home for an animal issue in March. Following the sighting on Monday and Tuesday of the zebra cobra on a porch about half a mile away, they returned.
