Initial Training Upon being worked with, all officers begin with 3 weeks of preliminary training covering different topics. Montana Police Academy (MLEA) Fundamental Program All entry level officers participate in the basic program which includes 12 weeks of academic and physical training. All lateral officers from other states should send their certifications and pass an equivalency program to be exempt from participating in the fundamental program.
Field Training and Examination Program (FTEP) All officers participate in a 14-week field training program, partnering with experienced field training officers (FTOs).
