Preliminary Training Upon being worked with, all officers start with 3 weeks of preliminary training covering different topics. Montana Law Enforcement Academy (MLEA) Fundamental Program All entry level officers participate in the standard program which includes 12 weeks of scholastic and physical training. All lateral officers from other states must send their certifications and pass an equivalency program to be exempt from participating in the basic program.
Field Training and Examination Program (FTEP) All officers take part in a 14-week field training program, partnering with skilled field training officers (FTOs). Lateral officers will begin this program instantly after the initial training. Entry level officers will start this program after graduating from the MLEA Basic Program. Probationary Duration All officers must successfully complete a 1 year probationary period to continue their employment with the Bozeman Authorities Department.



Specialized Task Training Officers appointed to particular duties or jobs within patrol receive training distinct to their duty.
