What's All The Fuss About Wallpaper Table Topping?

"So, you're trying to recreate the wallpaper on my wallpaper table," I said as I unfolded the paper for the first time. Looks like his story wasn't even half-way right. This is antique white paper wallpaper, not the type you'd usually see on a contemporary dining room table. It's not even the kind of paper you'd normally find at a craft store. From the look on the buyer's face, he assumed these things weren't really made that way anymore.

But don't let his shock and surprise keep you from making a purchase for these beautiful Victorian-style folding tables. Although they're primarily made of wood with touches of wrought iron and glass in their design, they come in a variety of woods including oak, maple and walnut. Their construction is simple: four legs secured by eight dowels (for stability). Because of its inherent strength and durability, they've been used in public spaces such as gardens for decades.

I decided to bring one home myself to add some rustic charm to my dining room. With its heavy square glass surface, it exudes sophistication and is sure to become a conversation piece when it's not used as a centerpiece. On the other hand, there was another reason to get this table. Unlike many of the folding dining tables I've seen recently, it doesn't have an ironing board.

I was excited to find out that wrought iron wasn't required to complete this project. Although it does have the beautiful textured marbles available, I realized that I could just as easily purchase a plastic base to go along with the marble wallpaper table wallpaper. Why have something that could use so much maintenance? !

After all, even a plastic base for dining chairs is going to be subject to food spillage and daily wear and tear. In addition, it will be placed in areas where food is likely to be dropped. For these reasons, I wanted to purchase a wood frame instead of an aluminum or metal one. It also made sense that a wooden frame wouldn't show the dirt like a metal one would.

What I found out about wood folding tables is that they can be very beautiful when properly cared for. Like any other material, they must be treated properly if they are going to last a long time. Because of the plastic cover on them, food must never be dropped onto them. If food does fall onto the table top, a plastic cover should be removed to prevent staining. I also suggest that dining chairs are folded flat when not in use, to avoid crease lines from creasing the fabric.

Because wood folding tables take such care and pride in their appearance, they are extremely durable. Unlike plastic bases, the folding tops won't split into sharp corners when dropped accidentally. They are also more difficult to kick over than plastic bases. When purchasing a folding table, it is a good idea to look for one that has a drop-leaf design. This allows you to fold the bottom of the table, leaving the leaf intact so that you can place food on the table without leaving any space for the leaves to drop off.

wallpaper table toolstation When purchasing folding tables, it is important that you get one that has a sturdy base. The most common way to support a table is with wood, but metal is also a great option. Some of the fancier folding tables can be supported by stone or concrete blocks. These supports may seem unnecessary, but the heavier the material used, the better it will hold up against the weight of the food you're going to place on it.
