Following many hours of consultation and preparation by Animal Control officers, in the end a glue trap captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.

It was taken to a safer location to be fully cleaned after it was guided into the bucket and guided out.

A striped snake was captured by WRAL cameras crawling onto a front porch on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.

When officers confirmed it was the snake, they walked back from the camera crew before moving in to try and capture it.

N.C., and Raleigh, N.C. Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a zebra cobra was caught on a Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, highlighting the nearly 48-hour ordeal across North Carolina.

As soon as the cobra was guided into the red bucket, it was moved to a safe location where the glue could be fully removed.

An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.

Camera crews had to be redirected after Animal Control officers confirmed it was a snake before moving in to try to capture it.

Early Tuesday, a 911 call from that home sparked the search.

The ordeal is over at last, said neighbor Joan Nelson.

She says she feels safe and happy now. It feels as if I can now go outside and enjoy the scenery. Nevertheless, I feel somewhat sorry for the snake.

There has been a missing zebra cobra in a north Raleigh neighborhood where a striped snake is laying out on a porch.

The snake is a zebra cobra and can spit up to nine feet long, making even a morning dog walk a daunting task. Consequently, the African Snakebite Institute says the snake is very dangerous. The venom can cause the nervous system to shut down.

An immediate reaction to the poison of a cobra is pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. It would then lead to a high fever and breathing problems, which could cause respiratory failure.

Veterinary specialist Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets at Avian and Exotic Animal Care in Nashville, Tennessee.

The cobras in this species are not typically biting. Venom is more likely to be sprayed by them, she said; they are very accurate and aim straight for the eyes.

She is not recommending it for pets, due to its risks.

The majority of bites occur during sleep. Research shows that people who are bit may suffer health issues for years.

Police searched a home on 6917 Chamonix Place on Tuesday, near where the cobra was last seen.

There was an animal issue at that home in March. The zebra cobra was spotted on a porch a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday.

The records of county government indicate that Keith and Rebecca Gifford reside at this address. His Facebook account shows several pictures of snakes he claims are owned by his son, Christopher, according to the account.
