Following many hours of consultation and preparation by Animal Control officers, a glue trap was ultimately deployed to capture a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.

A red bucket was used to guide the cobra into a safe location where all glue could be removed from its body.

An earlier video interview had captured a striped snake crawling onto a porch on Sandringham Drive from the siding of a house. When it lifted its head to look around, its hood was visible.

When officers confirmed it was the snake, they walked back from the camera crew before moving in to try and capture it.

An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

N.C., and Raleigh, N.C. Despite hours of consultation and preparation of law enforcement and animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a Raleigh porch Wednesday night, highlighting the nearly 48-hour ordeal across North Carolina.

An earlier video interview had captured a striped snake crawling onto a porch on Sandringham Drive from the siding of a house. A hood was visible wherever it turned its head.

When Animal Control officers confirmed the snake was the one they moved camera crews back before they attempted to catch it.

On Tuesday, police searched the same home after receiving a 911 call there.

Her neighbor Joan Nelson expressed relief at the end of the ordeal.

She said she felt safe and really happy. After this experience, I feel like I can go outside, walk on the deck, or even go for a jog. Despite that, I feel terrible for the snake.

The snake in question was found laying out on a porch in a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra had been reported missing.

Even a morning walk with your dog becomes dangerous due to the snake's ability to spit up to nine feet and be as fast as a zebra cobra. Consequently, the African Snakebite Institute says the snake is very dangerous. A victim's nervous system might shut down upon ingestion of the venom.

Those stung by the poison would experience severe pain, swelling, rashes, nausea, and diarrhea as a result. In addition to a heavy fever and breathing problems, respiratory failure could also result.

An enthusiastic veterinarian, Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets at Avian and Exotic Animal Care.

There is no evidence that this species of cobra bites. It is more likely that they will spray their venom . They are very accurate and go straight for the eyes.

Despite the risks involved, Locke does not recommend keeping this snake as a pet.

Most bites occur when a person is sleeping. Bite victims could be plagued with health problems for years, studies show.

It was Tuesday afternoon when police conducted a search of 6917 Chamonix Place, near the street where the snake was last seen.

An animal problem led to four police visits in March. Following the zebra cobra's spotting on a porch a half mile away, they returned on Monday and Tuesday.

There are records in the county that indicate Keith and Rebecca Gifford reside at that address. In a Facebook profile associated with Keith Gifford's name, there are several pictures of snakes he says his son Christopher owns.

Chris Gifford has more than 460000 followers on TikTok. His post claims he has a zebra cobra that is 7 feet long.
