Two W. Branch girls hurt in car mishap, News November 30, 2005Rob Poggenklass Two West Branch teenage women were seriously hurt Monday, Nov. 21, when their sport energy vehicle rolled on a gravel road northeast of town. Lisa Water Fountain and Jess Brothersen, both sophomores at West Branch High School, were riding in a Ford Explorer on Charles Avenue early Monday evening when Fountain, the driver, lost control of the automobile and struck an embankment, causing the SUV to roll a number of times.
According to reports from emergency situation personnel, West Branch Fire & Rescue responded to the mishap at 6:50 p. m. According to the report, Brothersen, though hurt, had actually escaped from the car and walked to the Barry and Carolyn Anderson house at 1745 Charles Ave., where she sought assistance. The report said that speed was an element in the mishap.
The Cedar County Sheriff's Workplace is performing an investigation of the accident. This Site said he intends to complete it by the end of this week. Emergency workers stated both ladies were using their basketball uniforms at the time of the accident, having just ended up practice. The accident came three years and six days after three West Branch teenage young boys were killed in a two-vehicle crash on a rural roadway east of Iowa City.
