For ages, in many cultures and religions around the world, exceptional value is placed on maintaining this state before marriage, especially by females. According to ancient Greek mythology, three of the most powerful Greek goddesses: Athena, Artemis, and Hestia, maintained their virginity, and the masses believed that it contributed to their immense powers. According to Greek stories, the revered Vestal Virgins of ancient Rome were assigned by God to the crucial task of guarding Rome’s sacred fire. These women were required to maintain their virginity for at least thirty years, the time during which they performed their holy duty with undivided loyalty and dedication. This act shows that societies idolized the concept of virginity since time immemorial. It is also noteworthy that even back then, virginity was believed to be expected of females more than males. Abrahamic religions, including Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, are unusually strict about maintaining a person’s chastity.
