The mission of A Social Change Agency, otherwise known as an S.C. Agency is to promote social change through the following strategies: Engaging the public, developing and promoting policy initiatives, assisting candidates who wish to win elections and promote healthy government, educating the public about social justice and helping people create economic security. There are many components that make up this plan, which we will discuss here. A social change agency is based in Olympia, WA, is a non-profit organization and is a 501(c) organization. They provide two main areas of service: Promoting Public Policy and the development of Social Justice. These two areas are meant to go hand in hand for the betterment of our world.

The philosophy of A social change agency is "NGO: New Organizing Idea," which basically means we should always be building upon the previous work that has been done, so that we can create new innovative solutions. Nonprofits must have strategic planning. Strategic planning is what enables nonprofits to work towards a common cause while also achieving specific goals. A strategic planning team consists of: a board of directors, a president, a staff, a trusted advisor, and nongovernmental staff. This staff must select leaders that will formulate plans and policies that will affect nonprofits and their members.

A trusted advisor is a person that holds a special position within the nonprofit world. A trusted advisor helps members of nonprofits work together to achieve the goals that the organizations have set forth for the future. Trustees elect their leaders through a process of voting. A trusted advisor may also be a nonprofit leader himself or a leader of another organization that coordinates funds, programs and activities. It is important to note that while some trustees hold a doctorate degree, others serve on advisory boards or senior management positions within public relations firms.

Each trusted advisor represents one aspect of the organization that he or she oversees. These aspects are typically research, communications, fund raising, grant writing, and volunteer management. The key role of the trusted advisor is to foster teamwork among different nonprofit organizations within the nonprofit world. Some areas that an advisor might focus include campus organizing, communications, education, fundraising, programming and grant writing. He or she is also expected to be knowledgeable in a number of other areas as well.

A strategic planning team within a social change agency coordinates and implements the strategies of the entire organization. This team is made up of individuals who are key players within each area of activity. A large part of the strategic planning process involves providing feedback to members of the nonprofit. The goal of this feedback is to discover where problems are arising, how to solve them, and how to provide quality solutions. As a nonprofit professional, your greatest strength is likely your creativity and your ability to connect with others on a personal level. Your second most important skill set is being able to clearly communicate a mission statement, beliefs and other important details. These two skills are what make up the foundation of your professional work as a social change agent. By focusing on these two areas, you can make great strides in your career and advance in your chosen field.
