If you look at the NBA champions of the last 20 years, with the exception of Michael Jordan's Bulls, you'll find that nearly every title winner had an elite center on their team. The position is integral to the success of a team, especially one that's looking for a title.

Having said that, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the five best centers in the NBA at the moment. We're not talking about career achievements, but rather the players who have the most meaningful impacts on their team right now.
Anyway, let's get down to business.
5. Al Horford. This may be an unconventional pick, but all one must do is look at the Hawks' record this season. Moreover, look at the team's record since they drafted Horford. What was once a miserably unsuccessful franchise just a few short years ago is now one of the strongest teams in the Eastern Conference. What's the difference, you ask? The presence of Horford, one of the best defensive players in the game.
4. Chris Bosh. A multi-talented player with many elements to his game, Bosh can score the ball with ease and his quickness makes him one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the game. At just 25 years old, he should continue to improve with time.
3. Tim Duncan. He may be in the twilight of his career, but Duncan is still an extremely effective presence at center. It would be hard to imagine what the Spurs would be without him, but my guess is that they'd be pretty bad. The four titles he's won with this team make him the most valuable career center of this current generation.
2. Pau Gasol. The Spanish center is truly versatile, with his smooth style improving everyone around him. For evidence as to how valuable he is, look at what his presence did for last year's champion Lakers. A team that would typically make the first 우리카지노 or second round of the playoffs instantly won a championship once they acquired Gasol.
1. Dwight Howard. No player in the NBA right now is stronger than Dwight Howard. Not only can he muscle his way under the boards and block shots like it's nobody's business, but Howard brought his Orlando Magic to the NBA finals last year. Not even the Cavs and LeBron could stop him, which should be a true testament to his dominance.

The NBA season is quickly approaching, and the 2009-2010 year of basketball looks like it'll be a very promising one. With so many players on the verge of breaking out, it's hard to limit this article to just three players. That's all I have time for right now, though I do plan to cover the basketball season regularly as things develop. From here, I'll present to you three NBA players to keep an eye on in 09-10, because I do believe they'll break out this season.
1. Anthony Randolph, Golden State Warriors. This versatile power forward is tall, quick, and strong, all at once. He didn't really give us a glimpse of his potential until late in the season last year, but he took over games during the final month of the season. Look for this second year young talent to break out in 09-10.
2. Mario Chalmers, Miami Heat. Following up on a quietly successful rookie year, much of the credit went to rookie of the year Derrick Rose, another point guard in Chicago. Still, Chalmers was extremely efficient in 08-09 and his defense was probably the best of any rookie guard. All signs point to Chalmers improving some more this season.
3. Brook Lopez, New Jersey Nets. A great rookie campaign showed us the well rounded nature of his game. With Carter out of New Jersey, expect Lopez to see even more opportunities to get the basketball and shine in the role of the Nets' big man. Lopez should be one of the better centers in the game within a year or two.
