Cambodia - A Southeast Asian Nation

Cambodia tours tour package

A Southeast Asian nation, Cambodia spans low-lying plains, the Mekong Delta, mountain ranges, and the Gulf of Thailand coastline. The city of Phnom Penh is the capital and boasts an art deco Central Market, glittering Royal Palace, and National Museum. Near the northwest coast, a visit to Angkor Wat, a massive stone temple complex built during the Khmer Empire, is a must.
While most Western nations have embraced multiparty democracy, Cambodia has been unable to achieve it. The lack of infrastructure, inadequate resources, and insufficient training of teachers have left the country without an adequate transportation system. Many schools in Cambodia are in poor condition, and the country's judicial system and police force are suspected of being corrupt. Common criminals are beaten and imprisoned, and wealthier citizens are disproportionately punished. Even opposition politicians have been attacked or killed, and the country's social and political environment remains impoverished.

The People's Party is the dominant party in Cambodia, controlling all but four seats in the National Assembly. The country is divided into 25 provinces and one autonomous municipality, and each province is further subdivided into 159 districts and 26 municipalities. Each district is further subdivided into communes, which are then further subdivided into quarters. The political and economic situation in Cambodia is unstable, and the country's government needs foreign assistance to improve the economy.
