What is Physiotherapy and How Does It Work?

Physiotherapy treats disease, injury, or malformations using physical methods such as massage, joint manipulation, or any other technique that isn't invasive or requiring surgery. A physiotherapist assists people suffering from injury, illness or disability through manual therapy, exercise and education as well as advice.

A key aspect of physiotherapy, is its holistic approach to wellness and treatment. It focuses on all aspects of the person including their lifestyle, health, and general well-being.

Physiotherapy is designed to enable individuals to remain as independent as possible and be active members of society.

Common Physiotherapy Techniques

  • Massage to relax the muscles

  • Techniques for soft tissue like myofascial release and stretching

  • Joint mobilization is a form of manipulation that uses the glide of the joint for motion, control, and function.

  • Physiotherapy instrument mobilization (PIM) uses handcrafted instruments

  • The use of minimal energy techniques (METs), which uses muscle's energy to relax muscles by using autogenic and reciprocal inhibition. exercises lengthen the muscle.

  • Osteopathy (acupuncture) and kinesiology
