Radio in Denmark: Listening to Danish Radio Stations

Radio in Denmark is controlled by Danmarks Radio or DR. DR is license fee financed and everyone in Denmark who wants to watch tv or listen to the radio must pay this yearly fee. There are plenty of stations to choose from and you do not have to listen to those controlled by the Danish government. There are many independent stations that offer a variety of music and talk.

If you want to enjoy radio while in Denmark, who will need to pay the license fee. You can pay a yearly fee or every 6 months. If you do not pay, you will get a very heavy fine when you get caught and they do catch you! There are different levels of fees Radio tunisie. One is for radio only, one is for radio and black and white tv (like who has a black and white TV anymore) and the other is for radio and color TV. Even if you use a computer to listen to the radio or watch TV, you still need this license.

DR has 4 public radio stations, which are known as P1, P2, P3 and P4. The P stands for program, so it is Program 1 Radio, Program 2 Radio, etc.. Each station has its own distinct type of programing.

P1 is a talk radio station with various guests (if you listen often enough, they seem to repeat many of the same guests) discussing the hot topics of the day. The discussions are in Danish, but occasionally you will international guests. Discussions are often very deep, thought-provoking, analytical and controversial. Their listening audience is not very large and this is not one of the most popular radio stations in Denmark.

P2 is a classical station featuring lots of classical music including chamber music, opera, jazz and art niveau style music. They also do book reviews and some guest artist interviews. Probably the most popular of the 4 stations.

P3 specializes in popular music including rock and pop music. There are also popular entertainment shows, sporting events and hourly news bulletins.

P4 is the local radio stations in Denmark. There are 11 such stations and each serves a different part of Denmark. The 11 stations are DR Bornholm, DR Esbjerg, DR Fyn, DR Trekanten, DR København, DR Midt & Vest, DR Nordjylland, DR Nordvestsjælland, DR Sjælland, DR Syd, DR Østjylland. Each name will tell you what region of Denmark it serves.

P4 will transmit both local and national news, traffic reports, popular music and many of the same programs are on each station.

Now do let this dissuade you from listening to radio, because there are many independent stations on the dial too! Some of the other stations are Go FM, The Voice, Nova FM, Radio 1 and Radio 3, Easy FM and Radio ALFA. Again these are regional stations are only available in certain parts of Denmark.
