What are the Dubai metro lines?

The lines also have numbers (1 through 4), which are used to describe both individual stations and entire lines. Individual stations can also be described by name as well as three-letter abbreviations (for example, DXB for Dubai Airport). Here’s a rundown of each line

How do I buy a ticket?

To purchase a ticket, you’ll need to buy a Nol card. The Nol card can be purchased from any metro station or at major bus stations for a fee of AED20. This fee will be credited back onto your card when you swipe it for your first journey. From then on, you’ll simply need to top up your balance using any one of these payment methods and continue using public transport across Dubai.

Where can I find the train schedule?

The train schedule for Dubai’s metro trains can be found on its website or via an app called Dubai Metro. Once you download it, you’ll have access to maps, a ride-planner, and real-time updates on timetables.

Where are the nearest metro stations?

The metro system in Dubai is huge—there are 23 stations and 100 trains on three lines (red, green, and blue). The red line runs from Rashidiya Station to Emirates Towers Station. The green line starts at Al Fahidi, continues through Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT), then travels south past Mall of Emirates before ending up at Arabian Ranches. The blue line runs from Etisalat to Burjuman via Mall of Emirates.

What happens if I miss my stop?

The best thing you can do when riding in a subway station or onboard a train is pay attention. That way, if you notice that your stop is coming up, you can make sure to let everyone know ahead of time. Otherwise, wait for your next stop—it might take a little longer, but it’s worth it to avoid missing out on your destination.

Can I take luggage on board with me?

Yes, you can take your hand luggage on board with you. Hand luggage may include one suitcase or duffel bag that must fit under your seat; anything larger should be stored in a storage compartment above your seat. All items are subject to search by security staff at all times. There will be a small fee for any oversized items taken into storage – please ask at your local metro station for details. Each line has varying restrictions so please check with staff at each station before boarding if unsure.

How often do trains run?

The trains run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Trains run every 2 minutes during peak times and every 4 minutes during off-peak times. After 11:30 PM trains come more frequently because of increased passenger traffic at that time. The last train leaves Al Rashidiya at 1:10 AM and begins its last trip from Etisalat at 1:14 AM. These trips are usually every 20-30 minutes but vary based on traffic conditions.

Is it difficult to use?

The last thing you want is for users to get frustrated and lose interest in your app. A great way to ensure everyone can navigate your app with ease, no matter what their age or technical ability, is by providing an extensive tutorial. If it’s a transport app, for example, you could pop up a step-by-step guide when a user opens it for the first time.

Are there any free shuttles in Dubai available?

Yes, there are free shuttles in Dubai that run frequently, including those from and to major malls. For a full list of shuttles available, check out our full guide on getting around in Dubai. With these shuttles and more public transport options at your disposal, you don’t need a car in Dubai.

Where do taxis take you when your destination is off limits to them?

If you’re in one of Dubai’s areas not serviced by taxis, and you want to get a ride home from an event or bar but aren’t able to flag down a cab, these rules will help you navigate your options. We recommend downloading Uber if you don’t have it already. It will quickly become your most valuable tool for getting around both restricted and unrestricted areas.
