Minecraft Reaches 54 Million Sold, Console Editions Pass PC

The blocky sandbox game that is so popular Minecraft is close to 54 million copies sold across all platforms, claims Mojang's Patrick Geuder, who also tweeted that the console (Xbox 360 and PS3) versions of the game have now surpassed sales of the PC and Mac versions. The game will launch on Xbox One, PS4 and Vita in August, with the latter being compatible with Cross-Buy which is free for players with the PS3 version. Top Minecraft Servers Xbox 360 and PS4 owners who have the game on their Xbox 360 or PS3 will be able to download the most recent versions for $5.

The first version of Minecraft was released in May 2009. This was two years before the full release in November of 2011. Mojang and Markus "Notch", Persson, the creator of Minecraft have reached numerous milestones in sales. Recently, Mojang reported that 15 million copies were sold of the PC version. The Xbox 360 version sold 12 million copies, while the Pocket Edition for iOS or Android reached 21 million. [Image: Mojang]
