Mojang's Patrick Geuder said that Minecraft's blocky sandbox is in the process of reaching 54 million copies across all platforms. He also stated via Twitter that the sales of console (Xbox 360, PS3) versions have already surpassed that of the PC and Mac versions. The game will launch on Xbox One, PS4 and Vita in August, with the latter being compatible with Cross-Buy and free for users of the PS3 version. Xbox 360 and PS4 owners who have the game installed on their Xbox 360 or PS3 will now be able to download the latest versions for $5.

The alpha version of Minecraft was released in May 2009. This was two years prior to its official release in November. Mojang and Markus "Notch", Persson who developed Minecraft have achieved a number of milestones in sales. Recently, Mojang reported that 15 million copies were sold of the PC version. In the same month the Xbox 360 version reached 12 million sold, and the Pocket Edition for iOS and Android reached the 21 million mark. [Image: Mojang]
