Ten Years Later, A Unique Version Of Minecraft Was Rediscovered

A very rare early version of Minecraft which was believed to be lost, has been rediscovered over 10 years after its release. Minecraft alpha 1.1.1 was released in September 2010 for the first time as the Java Edition. It was only available for three hours. Gaming historians have discovered it.

Over the years, there have been hundreds on hundreds of Minecraft versions. Fans have meticulously gathered and archived a lot of them to preserve. One version known as Alpha 1.1.1, or Seecret Saturday was thought to be lost. While it introduced fishing rods and sneaking to Minecraft, it was discovered to have a game-breaking bug that made the screen completely gray, so was replaced within a few hours by version 1.1.2.

The whole tale of its rediscovery was told over Twitter by the user @lunasorcery (via Kotaku), who discovered the missing alpha. Luna explains that Alpha 1.1.1 was a popular meme or holy theophany in Discord Omniarchive's Minecraft archiving Discord Omniarchive. Nobody expected to discover it.

Someone found one of Luna's old tweets and she was asked about it. She later discovered an archive of minecraft.jar which was created on the same date as Alpha 1.1.1's release on September 18, 2010. Minecraft Creative Servers verified that the file was Alpha 1.1.1 and shared the information on Omniarchive and then took it down.

So I wrote in Omniarchive, and it would not be an understatement for me to say that some people were noticing.

The reactions are enough to make you realize just how important this discovery is. I literally start shaking.
