Teenager Arrested Over Mass School Bomb Hoax

Following a massive bomb hoax that shut down hundreds of schools and colleges across the UK, a teenager believed to be at the center of an Minecraft gamers' feud was detained.



Hertfordshire police detained the 19-year-old following 24,000 threats to schools were sent out warning of a bomb threat and soliciting cash.



The emails were faked to make it appear as if the emails were sent by a gaming network known as VeltPvP. VeltPvP, a Minecraft player-versus-player server is the same service that businesses use to sell their products to gamers.



A teenager thought to be at the centre of an Minecraft gamers feud was arrested following an attack that engulfed the entire world shut down hundreds of schools across the UK. Hertfordshire police arrested the 19-year old after 24,000 emails were sent out to schools warning about an impending attack.



The emails were aimed at cause the domain to be banned for abuse - and are believed to be from an organisation that was trying to undermine VeltPvP.



The National Crime Agency (NCA) has stated that there was no evidence of threat to the emails received this week.

They stated that they understood the concerns of parents and teachers however, they stressed that there was no real threat from the emails sent to schools.



"However, we take the communications extremely seriously. As this is a live investigation, we are unable to provide further information.'



Following the bomb hoax emails, signs were placed outside Cardinal Road School in Feltham



The dispute was based on the belief that rivals had engaged in illegal activities to stop each other from doing business.



When asked if he regretted the effects the letters had on school children who were compelled to leave, one of the hoaxers responded, "It is terrible, it'sn't the nicest thing."

In blaming VeltPvP, the hoaxer said that the network was involved in a campaign of Direct Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, which he claims were employed to try and block other rival Minecraft servers.



In the wake of the email hoax bomb threat, parents were told to bring their children home.



In an announcement, VeltPvP said: 'We've been being harassed by a group of cybercriminals that are trying to harass us in any way that they can.



"We apologize deeply for those who were affected by this, but we want to let you know that it is fake."



More than 400 schools and colleges across the country received the email that claimed the bomb was planted and would explode if cash wasn't handed over.

Police forces from London, Bristol, Liverpool, Bedfordshire and the the North East were among those conducting an investigation.



Some parents asked to be allowed to pick up their children from school amid concerns about the emails.



Six schools in Hertfordshire were also affected: Abbots Hill, Valley School, Stevenage, The Sele School, Duncombe School, Stanborough School, Watford, St Albans High School, and Valley School.
