Report: Jason Momoa Will Star In That Minecraft Movie

The Minecraft movie is building its actors. Jason Momoa, who you may recognize as the Aquaman guy with mountainous muscles and a waterfall of blonde hair, or the Game of Thrones guy with mountains of hair and a swath of blonde hair will be the main character of the Minecraft film. At least, that's according to a report today from The Hollywood Reporter.

The Minecraft film is still out there even if you've lost track of it. It first surfaced in 2014, when Minecraft creator Marcus "Notch” Persson posted a tweet about its "potential existence" in an attempt to avoid "leaks". Since then, the movie has been in various states of development hell (an industry term that refers to projects that have languished for a long time due to production problems).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jared Hess will now be the director. Hess is most well-known for his quirky comedic comedy about coming of age Napoleon Dynamite, but he has also directed a few TV episodes, including two for Will Forte's The Last Man on Earth.

It's not clear what the plot of the Minecraft film will be. It's safe to say that Minecraft will not be as dark like the other block movies. Hess is directing, and Momoa who has amazing comedy chops, is leading the project. Tetris, to take it from director Matthew Vaughan, will be an "political Cold War thriller."
