Technoblade, Minecraft YouTuber Watched By Millions, Dies At 23 After Yearlong Battle With Cancer

Minecraft YouTuber Technoblade has died at the age of 23 following a year-long battle with cancer, his family announced Friday.

In a YouTube clip entitled "solong geeks", the father of content creator shared a final message with his subscribers.

"Hello everybody, Technoblade here," began the message. "If this is what you are watching. I am dead."

In the video, Technoblade, who has kept his identity a secret, revealed that his real name was Alex. He also thanked fans for supporting his content, buying merchandise, and channel memberships and joked that his siblings "are going to college."

"If I could have another hundred lives, I think Technoblade would be my choice again. Those were the best years of my life. I hope you guys enjoyed my content. I hope I made you all laugh. I hope you all live long, happy, prosperous lives.

Technoblade gained nearly 11 million YouTube subscribers in less than a decade and 3.7 million followers on Twitter as he shared his love for Minecraft, a game where users can create virtual worlds using blocks and create their own storylines. He went public with his cancer diagnosis back in August 2021, telling his followers during a video of himself playing the game that he sought medical help after experiencing pain in his arm that he initially believed was repetitive stress injury from gaming.

Technoblade's father stated that Technoblade had written his final message around eight hours before he died. Technoblade’s father, holding back tears and describing his son as "the best kid" anyone could ask for, added: "I miss Technoblade."

Technoblade's family released a statement saying that Technoblade had been through a lot as he battled stage 4 cancer. The video has been viewed more 19 million times. But he didn't complain, and kept using his famous strategic mind to try to beat what he knew were almost impossible odds. My son's courage on this path was a shining example to all of us who had the privilege to walk it with. We are grateful that you shared his journey with us, as he did the work that he loved for his beloved fans.

Fans, celebrities, and fellow gamers have shared their condolences on social media.

YouTuber Ted Nivison recalled him as "Effortlessly funny." Endlessly talented. Gone too quickly. Rest easy Technoblade.

TommyInnit (another popular YouTuber) wrote on Twitter, "Technoblade a f**king hero." I can't express how grateful he has made me feel, from being a huge fan to becoming one of his closest friends. I just know he's strategizing in heaven on how to beat God."

Sarcoma Foundation of America sent a statement to CNN, paying tribute to Technoblade and offering its condolences to his family.

Brandi Fleser, CEO of this charity, stated in the statement: "Technoblade rallied its supporters to raise over $500,000 so far to support sarcoma studies." This enabled SFA's to award Technoblade's research grants. He has left a legacy through his efforts that will have an impact on future generations.

Felser said that Technoblade will be recognized with the organization's Courage Award, an annual honor given to individuals who inspire others "to create hope and a better life for the sarcoma community" later this year.
