Mojang Studios (the company behind the popular Minecraft video game) has stated that it will not integrate NFTs into the game.

NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, are unique digital assets that often take the form of digital artworks.

Other major games studios are also adopting the NFT craze. The gaming industry is seen as a major market for the tokens.

Mojang has made it clear that it won't be joining the bandwagon.

Mojang stated in its statement that NFTs "create models for scarcity and exclusion, which conflict with our guidelines as well as the spirit of Minecraft." NFTs do not include all members of our community and create a situation of the haves and have-nots.

Mojang appeared also to be concerned about NFTs within Minecraft leading to fraudulent activity.

"The speculative pricing of NFTs and the investment mentality surrounding them encourages profiteering, the company stated.

"We are also concerned that some third-party NFTs may not be reliable and may end up costing players who buy them."

Mojang's statement is bolstered by Minecraft's popularity. Minecraft was the most-played game in the US in the first three months of this year, according to data from market research company NPD Group.

Mojang Studios is owned by Microsoft. Microsoft did not immediately respond when contacted by Insider to ask whether Mojang's statement was reflective of the company's stance as a whole on NFTs.
