Minecraft Legends: Everything We Know About The New Strategy Spinoff

IAN'S BLOG Servers Minecraft Crafting

The overworld is morphing again, this time into Minecraft Legends, a new action strategy spinoff for Mojang's main crafting game. Legends will take you on an adventure through the biomes of the world, hunting and gathering resources to defend yourself against the invading Piglin forces. You'll be able to unite old enemies such as creepers, skeletons, and others into allies against Nether's corruption. You can also invite your friends to join you in online coop.

Mojang shared a few details at the Xbox Showcase about how they plan to strategically command their mob armies. The trailer clearly reveals that you'll be riding on horseback, looking like a knight in iron armour, a lot. Here's all we know sofar about Minecraft Legends.

Is Minecraft Legends scheduled for release?

Not an exact one yet. Mojang says Minecraft Legends will launch sometime around 2023. We don't know anything more. What we do know is that Minecraft Legends was revealed during the Xbox Showcase in June 2022, which Microsoft emphasized was focused on games launching within the next 12 months. If everything goes according to plan then Minecraft Legends will be released in the first half 2023.

When it does arrive, we know that Minecraft Legends will launch on PC, consoles, and be included in Xbox Game Pass.

Here's our first trailer for Minecraft Legends.

This is just a teaser. But there's much more to the Minecraft Legends trailer, including a look at gameplay. The first bits of the trailer are animated cinematic footage, just like Mojang does for other Minecraft reveals or projects.

Minecraft Legends "tells of the Overworld uniting to resist an invasion from the ravenous Piglins," it says. "According the legend, only you can unite the Overworld mobs and help defend their home.

That makes it very clear that the player is riding their horse in front of an army of zombies and creepers. It appears that long-standing enemies are going to band together to kick the piglins into the Nether.

So how does Minecraft Legends play?

Here's Mojang's announcement post about Legends: "You will defend peaceful settlements, and fight hordes piglins in order to stop their Nether corruption." You are at the center of any battle you lead, fighting alongside allies and giving direction.

If you pay close attention, you will see a few glimpses of this in the reveal trailer. The player rides a horse, followed by mob units, waving a blue flag in a way that looks like they're calling their army to their position. You can also see the player and their mob pals fighting a horde of piglins and assaulting a grim-looking Nether fort with a portal at its center.

This is not the same type of crafting and building that you'd find in regular Minecraft, unlike Minecraft Dungeons (opens new tab). Legends will have you riding on horseback, leading your mob army and swinging a sword at piglin foes.

In another livestream, Mojang Studios executive producer Dennis Ries says "as you explore the lush biomes you collect resources and then you use those resources to build defenses."

A quick glance at the player fortifications can be seen in the trailer: A player stands near a large oak log fortress.

Is there multiplayer available in Minecraft Legends Crossplay?

Yes! Xbox has announced that Minecraft Legends will offer co-op as well as competitive multiplayer. We don’t know much else about multiplayer.

Crossplay is something we can almost guarantee will be available between Xbox and PC players. Since Mojang eventually added cross-platform multiplayer to Minecraft Dungeons for PC and all consoles, it seems fair to hope that it will push for that at launch with Legends.

Who is creating Minecraft Legends?
Ianblog.Com

Mojang is not actually developing Minecraft Legends. It is actually being developed and maintained by Blackbird Interactive. The studio that created the spaceship deconstruction sim Hardspace Shipbreaker (which we gave an excellent 91% rating) and is currently working on RTS Crossfire Legion.
