Apple today announced improvements to the Apple TV platform at its WWDC keynote. New apps arriving include Sling TV (finally), Fox Sports, the French streaming service Molotov and the Minecraft: Story Mode game. Apple is also updating the remote app for iPhone. The app functions much like the hardware remote. It has a touch-based navigation and Siri voice search. You can also utilize the keyboard to input data and control the accelerometer. The hardware itself is now more similar to the remote. A new feature known as "Live Tune In" will allow you to switch between livestreaming channels such as ESPN, Disney, and many others. There's also a dark theme available, and Automatic App downloads mean that when you install a universal application on your iPhone or iPad and then install it on your Apple TV, it will be there on your Apple TV too.

Apple has even addressed the issue of signing in to all of these network TV Everywhere apps with Single sign-on. Log in once using your details and you'll be authenticated in all apps that support it. This is true for both the Apple TV and mobile iOS devices.

Once a user is logged to one app from a network and then any other app on Apple TV from participating pay-TV providers will automatically log the user into all other supported apps requiring authentication.

Customers can view the list of all authenticated apps offered by a pay-TV provider to find the latest, download and stream their favorite video channels.

This technology can be utilized by any app on the network to allow single sign-on and to simplify the process for their viewers.

Single sign-on will be accessible on both Apple TV and iOS.

Apple is bringing HomeKit (ReplayKit) and PhotoKit (PhotoKit) to TVOS. Now devs can tie in home automation features to TV apps or pull images from the photostream and much more. ReplayKit is already available on iOS 9, allows them to record and live broadcast directly from within apps. This could result in Twitch-like features for Apple TV or DVR-ish caching for live streams. Today's developer preview features all the new features and should be available to everyone by fall.
