Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic Games, says that the Epic Games store "definitely won't" restrict the sale of games which include NFTs. Sweeney's comments follow a statement from Minecraft developer Mojang that outlined its stance not to permit blockchain technologies or NFTs to be used in Minecraft.

One user contacted Sweeney via Twitter to inquire if Epic Games would adopt a similar position to Mojang. However, Sweeney replied in the negative.

He believes that developers should be able choose what games they want to create and you should be able to choose whether or not to play them. "I believe that operating system and stores manufacturers shouldn't be trying to dictate their opinions on others. We definitely won't."

Sweeney's comments were reacted to by a user who inquired what the difference is between this policy and Epic Games their policy on discriminatory and hateful content. Sweeney stated that this is due to "editorial and branding judgments" and that Epic has chosen to "draw the line at the mainstream acceptable norms."

A few users of the PC gaming subreddit have been critical of Sweeney’s stance. This is despite the fact that Epic CEO John McDonnell has been vocal about NFTs in the past. Minecraft Sweeney published publicly a copy of his September 2021 email response in an official tweet in response. The message stated that "We aren’t touching NFTs because the entire field is tangled with an intractable mixture of frauds and intriguing decentralised tech foundations as well as scams."

Now Sweeney is certain that developers who use the Epic Game store should have the choice to pursue such integrations if they wish however. In an update tweet that "Crypto is a complex.
