Minecraft And NFTs

from web site

CMS Welcome to my blog

Recently, we've received some feedback from our community members inquiring for clarification and more transparency regarding Mojang Studios and Minecraft's position on NFTs (non-fungible tokens) and blockchain.

While we are currently working on updating our Minecraft Usage Guidelines to offer more specific guidelines on the latest technologies, we would like to use this opportunity to express our opinion that integrations of NFTs with Minecraft are not something we would support or allow. Let's take a closer look.

What is an NFT?

An NFT is an exclusive digital token that can't be modified and is usually purchased with cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. An NFT can be associated to any digital asset, such as an MPEG or GIF. However, digital art like JPEGs is the most common application for an NFT. The purchase of an NFT is a token that identifies the owner of the original digital file. Yet, with any digital file, that file can be copied, moved or even deleted. Blockchain and NFTs have also been associated with speculation, where prices are driven up quickly and, as we've recently seen, could fall quickly.

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT ME

If you're a player or creator actively involved in the trading, buying, or selling of trading of NFTs which make use of Minecraft (like skins or worlds), we strongly suggest you read the details below. welcome to my blog If you don't, these changes will not affect you.

Our MINECRAFT POLICY AND NFTS

In our Minecraft Usage Guidelines, we outline how a server owner can charge for access, and how all players should have access to the same functionality. These rules are in place to ensure Minecraft remains an open community that gives everyone access to the same content. NFTs may, however, create scarcity and exclusion models which are not in line with our guidelines and the spirit and purpose of Minecraft.

Blockchain technology isn't allowed to be integrated into our client and server apps. Additionally, blockchain technology cannot be integrated into Minecraft game-related content such as skins, worlds and other items be used by blockchain technology to create a precious digital asset. The reasons for this are as follows.

Certain companies have recently launched NFT implementations that integrate with Minecraft world skin packs and files. NFTs and blockchains can be used with Minecraft to create Minecraft collectible NFTs. This allows players to earn NFTs by performing activities on a server or gaining Minecraft NFT rewards.

Each of these uses of NFTs and other blockchain technologies result in digital ownership based on scarcity and exclusion that is not in alignment with Minecraft values of creativity and playing with others. NFTs do not encompass all members of our community and create a situation of the haves and the not-so-haves. The investment and speculation mindset around NFTs diverts attention from the game itself and encourages profit-seeking, which we believe is not in line with the long-term joy and success of our players.

We are also concerned about third-party NFTs not being secure and could cost those who purchase them. Some third-party NFT implementations are also dependent on blockchain technology and may require an asset manager, who might disappear without notice. There have also been instances where NFTs were sold at artificially or fraudulently overvalued prices. We are aware of the value of creating in our game and strive to create a marketplace where those values are acknowledged.

In order to ensure that Minecraft players have a safe and enjoyable experience, blockchain technologies are not allowed to be integrated into our Minecraft client and server applications, nor can be used to create NFTs that are associated with any in-game content, including skins, worlds and other items, or any other mods. We will also be keeping a close eye on how blockchain technology evolves in the future to ensure that the above principles are withheld and determine whether it will provide more secure gaming or other practical and inclusive applications in gaming. However, we have no plans of incorporating blockchain technology into Minecraft as of now.

We'll have more to discuss with you in the near future. In the meantime If you're interested in reading up on our guidelines they can be found here. Keep an eye on us!
