Minecraft creator Mojang plans to launch a spin-off game

Minecraft maker Mojang is planning a spin-off game based on its wildly popular block-building title.

It is named Minecraft: Story Mode and will be an episodic video game that takes place within the familiar Minecraft world however, it introduces new characters to the world.

The game is produced by Telltale Games which has produced numerous other episodic games.

The first episode will be available on consoles, PCs and Macs in 2015, along with Android devices.

So far, no details about what it will be like has been revealed. Mojang has released a brief game that is based on a browser called InfoQuest II to demonstrate what it could appear like.

Mojang said in a blog post the game will be developed using the help of the Minecraft community.

It was designed to assure players that Story Mode is not violent and bloody like previous Telltale games. Telltale's latest games include Tales from the Borderlands, The Wolf Among Us and titles based upon Game of Thrones and the zombie-themed thriller The Walking Dead.

"Telltale's Minecraft-like game will feel like Minecraft," stated Mojang, "though it is a completely original take inspired by our game."
