IPhone users are seeing offers for free smartphones from major carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon.
A number of US carriers are offering customers the latest iPhones for free, subject to certain conditions. These conditions include having an old iPhone to qualify. AT&T and T-Mobile are giving customers up to $1,000 cash back by allowing them to trade-in old iPhone models. Verizon is offering a similar offer — for $800 cash back — for buying an iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro. Verizon is offering up to $800 worth of iPhone 14 credit for customers who trade in their old iPhones for the latest devices, as well, according to a list of deals compiled by Apple.
Apple managed to keep the price of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus the same, but iPhone 14s start at $899 and $999, respectively, for the basic model. IPhone 14s starting at $999 for the base model, and at $1,099. For the higher-end iPhone 14, pricing is much more expensive — the iPhone 14 Pro starts at $999, and the iPhone 14 Max at $1,099. Apple and wireless carriers are offering iPhone 14s to customers who qualify. This can help consumers who are feeling the pinch from all sides afford the latest phones.
Many wireless carriers have built out their 5G networks to support their customers.
City Newsr may be offering steep discounts for customers who want to upgrade to the latest smartphones. Apple has invested billions of dollars in 5G networks and they're trying to get a return on those investments.

I think one of the reasons why they're able to do it is because the prices of iPhones historically have been quite affordable. Many of these carriers sell used and refurbished iPhones.

In the United States, the latest iPhones have no SIM card tray and are now fully eSIM compatible. Apple has made it easier for consumers to switch carriers by offering eSIM technology, which makes it easier to switch carriers. Apple may be trying to get consumers to upgrade to 5G services, which is why the carriers are being more aggressive, or at least as aggressive as they've been since the iPhone 12
It's important to check the fine print, as these deals are often offered as a form of a mobile phone contract, a practice that's been common since cellphones became ubiquitous. Forte said that if you take advantage of some of these iPhone 14 promotions but then cancel the service after a month or two, you may end up paying more than the $99 price of the new phone.
Apple and carriers are trying to capitalize on the growing popularity of pay-as-you-go plans among consumers in recent years, says Julie Ask, vice president and principal analyst at Forrester. People are increasingly looking for ways to stretch their spend over the course of years, including through a service that offers discounts on both the iPhone and cell phone plans. Even if the plan is a bit longer, the savings can be good.
There's been a significant increase in consumers willing to pay monthly for their devices, she said. Even if they're not able to offer you a great deal, carriers are able to lock you into a plan for a while (or a significant amount of time), and that's something that many consumers are willing to pay for.
