Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney says his firm "definitely won't" follow Minecraft developers in banning nonfungible tokens (NFTs).

As previously reported, Minecraft developers Mojang Studios has banned NFT integrations on Wednesday, because it believes that the speculative aspect of NFTs together with the risk of exclusion and frauds associated with NFTs being against the game's fundamentals.

The move was considered highly controversial within the NFT community, however, it has been greeted with acclaim by the group of crypto-skeptic gamers.

The company of Sweeney is the one behind the development of the highly successful battle royal game Fortnite that is considered to be a Metaverse-based platform. Although Epic Games isn’t necessarily pro-crypto and NFTs, its CEO has stated that the company does not intend to force any opinions on the subject to its players.

Developers should be free to choose how they build their games, and you should be free to decide whether to play them. I don't believe that stores or operating system developers should force their views on other people. Minecraft servers We shouldn't.

In response to the post, Twitter user Low5ive asked Sweeney if Epic Games' policy on prohibiting "hateful/discriminatory content" differs from this. In reply, Sweeney suggested that Epic Games does make "editorial" decisions, but NFTs aren't currently covered under them.

"A store could choose to avoid making such judgements and instead host something that's legal, or choose to draw a line at the norms that are accepted by the majority of people as we do, or accept only games that are in line with the owner's personal beliefs," he said.

Mojang Studios' NFT ban has caused NFT Worlds, a project built on Minecraft's open-source servers, facing one major issue.

Play-to-earn (P2E) is a community-driven platform for play-to-earn (P2E), has an entire crypto- and NFT ecosystem built around. The NFTs it uses generate 51,000 Ether (ETH), which is $80.8 million worth of trading volume at the time. Since the news broke, however, the floor price of its NFTs has fallen from 3.33 ETH to 1.01 ETH as of the time of writing, while its native token WRLD has dropped by 55% within that time frame.

The NFT Worlds team said that they are currently "brainstorming" solutions to the Mojang announcement. The team has stated that they are in touch with Minecraft to find solutions. If not, a shift to the "Minecraft-like game engine" or GameFi platform has been outlined as possible options.
