Three Major Problems That The Elderly Face As They Grow Older

As people grow older, their body systems slow down, and they cannot do the things they once did. They may struggle with everyday activities and have problems with memory loss. Everyone does not age at the same rate, so some people may be luckier and able to care for themselves better than others. People may develop medical conditions like dementia that cause them problems too. These people will need help as their loved ones may not know to handle them. Family members have their responsibilities too. That makes it difficult for them to manage the elderly who need extra help.

Overcoming The Bathing Struggle

The elderly may struggle with having a shower. They may develop unreasonable fears of slipping in the area. They have reason to fear that a fall could cause permanent damage at that age. We may not understand their concerns. However, that causes them to feel reluctant to bathe. We could help them overcome their beliefs by getting a solid bathing chair. A tub transfer bench is good too. You could also put a longer shower hose for them to reach. Tub railings and grab bars have helped many people. You can place a few non-slip bath mats in the bathroom too.

Dressing Up Does Not Need To Cause Anxiety

The elderly may have problems changing their clothes due to balance issues. That may cause them to stay in the same clothes for long periods. You can get a long-handled shoe horn to help them put on their shoes without bending. They usually have trouble bending; as they may get giddy or suffer from arthritis and other motor disabilities. Velcro shoes are better than ones with laces. You can also buy them clothes that are easier to put on than others. Loose ones that do not have buttons are an advantage.

Bladder and Bowel Control Becomes Weaker

Many people lose muscular control over their bowels and bladder as they age. That may cause them to feel nervous about going out. Some people may also have health issues that require them to use the toilet urgently. That can cause worse issues with a lack of bowel and bladder control. People with these problems might end up with emotional issues to add to the physical ones. They will need to have regular timings to visit the washroom. That could prevent accidents. They will also need to watch their food and drink intake. When things get worse, adult diapers will help. As the problems progress, you will need Senior In Home Care. Happy To Help Caregiving can get the stress of looking after the elderly in your care off your hands.
