ETSU has started an MPH programme in public health leadership and policy.

Diverse students will benefit from the MPH in leadership for public health and policy. The degree is offered both online and on-campus, and can be pursued either full-time or in part-time mode.

The fifth focus of ETSU's College of Public Health's Master of Public Health Program is leadership in public health as well as policy. Biostatistics, community health the environment and health as well as epidemiology are the other four options. It is also a part of the college also offers a Master of Health Administration degree which prepares students for positions of leadership in various health healthcare contexts.

This new specialization, which is offered in the Department of Health Services Management and Policy, will prepare graduates for leadership positions in the field through an applied curriculum etsu edu focused on practice and interprofessional interactions. Graduates will be able to lead public health organizations, with skills in budgeting financial planning, strategic planning, finance, human resources, and population health management. The graduates will also be prepared for positions of leadership in the design and implementation of policies, and analysis.

Students can tailor their programme of study to focus on management and leadership, or the development of policies and evaluation in line with their goals and interests.

"We developed this MPH concentration after meeting with public health leaders throughout Tennessee to identify what they felt was needed for the field of public health as we move forward from the COVID-19 pandemic," said Beatty who is an associate professor of Health Services Management and Policy. "Because the Central Appalachian region suffers from health and social inequities, this programme will train and develop the next generation of graduates who will solve many of the health problems we face, ultimately reducing health disparities in the region, state, and nation."

The new MPH is a response to the increasing need for public health specialists at the federal, state as well as local levels at a time when trained professionals are scarce and the public health sector's responsibilities are expanding.

"Through tactical and analytical skills, this new addition to our MPH offerings will produce well-trained public health professionals with the ability to lead effectively," said Dr. Randy Wykoff, dean of the College of Public Health. "Our faculty will prepare students to become collaborative, influential public health leaders in today's workforce by providing them with relevant, practical toolsets to conduct health disparities research and lead, motivate, and serve multidisciplinary teams."

"This addition to ETSU's already strong MPH offerings meets the challenge of an ever-changing public health landscape and will no doubt put into practise the next generation of passionate, and prepared, professionals ready to face that challenge head on," said Glenn Czarnecki, director of the Tennessee Department of Health's Southeast Tennessee Region.
