Understanding the Spiritual Life of Christians

from web site

For many Christians understanding the supernatural life seems a bit mystical. Many shy away from the subject, and others jump in headlong. I find living supernaturally to be the most practical way for a Christian to live in the earth. I believe that living the supernatural life is the heart cry of every believer, but many back away for fear of being misguided. The supernatural life must be tempered with the wisdom of God.

Many people have been hurt as a result of launching out into spiritual experiences while lacking wisdom. Others have watched the devastation that followed and concluded that the supernatural was not for them or their church. Shipwreck comes as we try to live in the spiritual ignoring the natural. We occupy two worlds, the natural and the spiritual.

When we were born again we became alive to another realm. We are still here in the natural world but we are now alive to the spiritual. The key to the supernatural lifestyle is to learn how to walk in both. Being spiritual does not mean that I ignore the natural, it means I function in the natural world with spiritual abilities (grace). The art of the supernatural lifestyle is in maintaining a proper balance. The thrill of the supernatural life is that we are no longer limited to just our natural abilities. Spiritual life is limitless life, that is why it is so appealing.

Supernatural people are people who live beyond their personal limitations, bearing fruit beyond their abilities, because they are empowered by the Holy Spirit. The Bible word for this a course in miracles  is grace. We are created for this, and I believe we all hunger for this as well. "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." The result then is, I live in this natural world with spiritual power.

Super means over and above, higher in quality. Natural, as it pertains to us, means the talents and abilities that are inherent as God's created being. The word supernatural is not a mystical word, it is really very practical. It just means to live above or beyond natural limits. Paul said, "By the grace of God I am what I am." He did not say, by my talents and natural abilities, I am what I am. Paul was saying that by grace he became over and above what he otherwise would be without grace. His name was Saul, and he became Paul.

How many of you, right now, really need God to super your natural? You have gone as far as you can with what you know, and you need God to make up the difference. That is exactly what Jesus died on the cross for. Jesus is ready to add His super to your natural and cause you to bear much fruit unto God. If you desire a supernatural life as a Christian, ask for more grace!
