Types of blog posts

from web site

Sometimes blogging can be tedious. We've all been there. It doesn't matter how much your blog is loved and what topics you choose, sometimes you just get writer's block. You can't create a meaningful post.

Before you do something stupid that might alienate some of your readers, you should reference this list as it outlines some of the more common types of posts that you can write on a blog. I put together this list as a reference and have it on my desktop for consideration when I run out of blogging ideas.

Here's a list of post types currently found on my desktop.

Personalized posts.

Talk about something from your personal life. This type of post allows your readers to empathize and feel like they are part of you. It's not a good idea to overdo it. People can become bored of hearing about your turtle every week.

Discuss a product you like or dislike.

Always fun to do. A post like this can even lead to a quick buck if you include affiliate links.

Talk about something or someone you don't like.

There is nothing better than expressing your opinion on a topic to spark a heated debate. Be careful to not get sued for libel though.

Love

Collect a series of links and talk about them once per week.

Video Posts.

Make a video post talking about a useful topic.

Discuss current events.

Write about a currently popular news story. You can get traffic almost instantly by using long tail keywords, which are people searching for the topic in the moment you're writing. Google Trends is an example where you can get tips for latest issues you can discuss. (e.g. On the eve of the American Idol final I made a post discussing the winner that got some 1000 uniques within a day, and continued to get steady traffic for another few weeks).

Get the latest news on something.

It is important that you are the first or the only one to report a news story. People will then link to you when they refer to the news item.

Review blogging.

You can also review other blogs and share your honest opinion. Your review may be appreciated by the owners of the blogs you have reviewed and they might link back to it.

Take a survey of your readers.

Ask them questions. Engage your readers. Blogs are a great writing medium.

Event blogging.

Share your thoughts and impressions about a conference, seminar or event. Bloggers who attend events and write about them are a great thing. After you return, take pictures and make notes.

Live blogging.

Blog at a fast pace about an event happening in real time. If you attend a match, an auction, or some other live event and you have your laptop with you, why not blog www.bioem2017.org about it as things happen?

Repost blogging.

Quality blog posts should be rewritten.

Guest posting.

Invite other bloggers in your niche to post guest posts on your blog. This is mutually beneficial because you get new content for your blog, and the guest poster gets traffic to their blog. It helps you build lasting working relationships with fellow bloggers.

List blogging.

People love lists. Put together lists of things in your niche "Top 10 Best Goals Of All Time", "Top 10 Hottest Looking Actresses Of All Time", "Top 10 Easter Recipes Of All Time" etc. List posts often become very popular on social bookmarking sites too - more on that later in this text.

Time period overview blogging.

Do a weekly / monthly recap of what you posted about on your blog. These posts keep your blog's traffic steady and help you avoid burying posts in archives.
