international school in malaysia

Welcome to the best international school in malaysia ! Find out why our educators, administrators, and alumni are so proud to call us home.

Whether you're an expat or a local, you're sure to enjoy your time at WISEM. Our mission is to provide a first-class education to global citizens of all ages, and we achieve this through a mix of British and international teaching, an active NSPCC community, and an alumni network boasting over 140,000 members.

We've put together a list of facts about WISEM, which will help get you started:

Facts About WISEM

• Our vision is to provide a first-class education to every student, regardless of nationality or cultural background. We aim to do this by bringing together a community of British and international teachers, supportive parents, and above all, brilliant leaders who care

• We are an IB World School, so we offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma and the International Baccalaureate Certificate (both levels)

• Our alumni network boasts over 140,000 members, making it one of the largest in Southeast Asia. We have an active student council, headed up by two senior students, with representation from all year groups. Our alumni can be found in every corner of the world and represent every stage of their education. We have over 150 graduate job roles on our website, including positions at the UK Cabinet Office, the IOC, and the UN. Our alumni are known for their entrepreneurial spirit and are a driving force behind many of the school's charitable initiatives.

The School's Story

WISEM was founded in 1997 and is named after the first British Ambassador to Malaysia, Wilfred (Wilf) Richard Smythson. A keen sportsman, Wilf Smythson felt that British schools in Malaysia could learn a lot from our Southeast Asian counterparts. The School started small, with just 160 students, and the first classrooms were located in the Embassy. As our student body has grown, so has our campus. After relocating to our present site in 2003, we welcomed the addition of a sports arena and outdoor swimming pool. Since then, we have continued to expand and develop our campus, adding several new buildings and refurbishing existing ones. Our most recent development is the opening of a brand new classroom block, which houses over 40 classes and is supported by an ICT suite.

Our beautiful, modern classrooms are filled with excitement every day as teachers and students get to work. We place a high emphasis on academic rigor and preparing our students for the future and life beyond school. Our graduates are prepared for the world of work and play, and we think it's fair to say that they've got what it takes to succeed. Our students are known for their exceptional academic natures and strong work ethic. These are just a few of the reasons why WISEM is the best international school in Malaysia. Now, let's be honest, there are bound to be a few more.

The Teaching Approach

The way we train our teachers is important, and that's something we're very proud of at WISEM. We hold regular in-service days for our staff, where they can share experiences, discuss innovative ideas, and train for the future. We also interview all prospective teachers on their experience, strengths, and areas for improvement. Our teachers are then ranked and rewarded on their performance, so everyone has a good idea of who's contributing and who's not. Teaching at WISEM is a collaborative effort and our teachers invest a lot of time into their students' learning, both in and out of class. The School actively encourages our staff and students to develop strong international relationships, which we believe leads to a better education for everyone. We regularly host educational visits from abroad, bringing in renowned speakers and enhancing the educational experience for all our students.

A Global Perspective

Finally, we'd like to leave you with a brief overview of what it means to be a WISEM student. You'll quickly notice that our students don't do things by halves. We expect a lot from our students and hold them to the same high standards as our teachers. Our graduates travel the world, both literally and figuratively, and they represent every country and culture you can imagine. There's no question that being a WISEM student is both exciting and rewarding, as you'll soon find out for yourself.
