Existing as a means to inhibit the growth of weeds, weed barriers come in a variety of forms including plastic sheeting, fabric, and landscape paper. Placed beneath weed barrier plastic or pavers, they not only discourage the presence of weeds between cracks, but also provide the ability to modify how much water and air infiltrate the ground. Some barriers are permeable – allowing an exchange of air and water – whereas others are completely impenetrable – blocking off all sources of moisture and light.

Weed barriers come in a variety of forms, but plastic sheeting is by far the most popular - and often the least expensive. Unfortunately, its efficiency is undermined by its inability to block light or air from penetrating, allowing pesky weeds to win the battle. Fabric types offer a much stronger defense from weed growth, but typically at the cost of a more costly and fiddly installation. On the other hand, landscape paper will act as an impenetrable barrier - although at an inflated price.

Marking the area, digging six inches down, laying the weed barrier, and tamping down the soil—these are the basic steps in installing a weed barrier. Commencing with noting the designated spot, follow up by digging into the ground and settling in the weed barrier. Afterward, fill in the excavated area with soil and give it a firm pat. In fence post protector weed eater at all, your weed barrier will be in place!

A reliable solution for blocking out pesky weeds and preserving the appearance of your flagstones or pavers, weed barriers are simple to establish and come in all shapes and sizes.
