All You Need to Know About GST Council Members and Meetings

After the introduction of GST in the entire country, there is a need for the council or committee to manage all the tax-related services and that’s why GST Council came into existence. It is a government-authorized committee that has the responsibility to regulate the implementation of GST laws and regulations in the entire country efficiently. Besides this GST Council takes suggestions from the board members and has the authority to reconcile or Procure any laws or regulations related to GST in India. the apex GST regulations body is headed by the union finance minister Nirmal Sitaraman and assisted by the other board members.

What is the GST Council

 

An apex committee GST Council constituted by the President of India, is a joint forum of the state as well as the center and has all the responsibility to make major decisions regarding GST. Before implementing the law in the entire country it has to be approved by the union cabinet. The legislation council was formed under Article 279A of our constitution. 

GST Suvidha Center services are well managed by the laws of the GST Council.

 

Structure of the GST Council

 

Formed under Article 279 A GST council has a total of 37 members. To know the structure of the GST council have a look

 

  • The Union Finance Minister sits on the chair of the GST Council Chairperson.
  • The Revenue in charge position is handed over to the Union Minister of State.
  • The finance minister or any other taxation-related minister from every state has been nominated to be a member of the GST Council
  • Vice-chairperson of the GST Council was elected by the members of the council who comes from different state. 

 

Some Important Facts About GST Council

 

  • GST Council was created as per Article 279A of our amended constitution. 
  • The head office of the GST Council is in New Delhi.
  • The presence of the Central Board of Excise and Customs is necessary in all the proceedings of the GST Council.
  • The revenue secretary is appointed as Ex-Officio secretary of the GST Council.
  • GST Council consists of 33 members from all the states of India.
