Jeonbuk-Daejeon Hana, sharpening their skills for a rebound in the new season!

Each K-League club is having a busy winter transfer market ahead of the opening of the 2024 season. Among these, the two teams that are showing the most active actions are Jeonbuk Hyundai and Daejeon Hana Citizen.

Jeonbuk, which is considered a perennial contender for the championship, suffered its pride by finishing in 4th place in the 2023 season. The color of attacking soccer, which was called ‘Dakgong’, has also faded. Jeonbuk, which is trying to regain its pride this year, stands out for its active reinforcement in attack. The recruitment of Thiago (31, Brazil), who ranked second in scoring in K League 1 last season (17 goals), was a signal. By bringing in Thiago, who was the center of the Daejeon Hana attack in the 2023 season, Jeonbuk strengthened the firepower of the front line, which had been disappointing recently.

Jeonbuk’s reinforcement of strikers did not stop there. Following Thiago, they brought in Jeon Byeong-gwan (22), a fast-moving winger from Daejeon Hana, and Incheon United striker Hernández (25, Brazil). Jeonbuk, with its solid scorer Thiago and all-weather striker Jeon Byeong-kwan and Hernández, is now able to utilize more diverse attack combinations.

Along with recruiting a striker, Jeonbuk is shaking up the winter transfer market by adding a 'big name'. The signing of midfielder Kwon Chang-hoon (30), who symbolized Suwon Samsung, was a hot topic in Jang-an. Jeonbuk continued to send love calls to him, who did not show much success in Suwon, and his move to Jeonbuk ultimately struck a dagger in the hearts of Suwon fans. Jeonbuk is continuing its unstoppable move by successfully recruiting Ulsan HD Kim Tae-hwan (35).

Along with Jeonbuk, the most influential team in this winter transfer market is Daejeon Hana. While top teams such as Ulsan and Pohang Steelers have a high proportion of rookie free agents or priority draftees, Daejeon Hana, like Jeonbuk, is focusing on resources that have already been proven in the pros.

Daejeon Hana started with the recruitment of Kim Seung-dae (33), the core of Pohang's attack, and brought in Hong Jeong-woon (30), a 9-year K League defender, from Daegu FC. Also, on the 16th, they renewed their contract with unwavering starting goalkeeper Lee Chang-geun (31) and are forming a new team centered around players familiar with the K-League.

At the basis of Daejeon Hana's recruitment policy is a firm sense of purpose. Daejeon Hana escaped the relegation zone early last year in the first season of promotion to K-League 1 and ranked 8th, but this year they are looking higher. In line with the aspirations of coach Lee Min-seong, who said, “The goal for the new season is to qualify for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League (ACL),” the club is also sparing no effort in investing and is in the midst of recruiting players.
