‘Tournament Mode’ Klinsmann…

Klinsmann entered ‘tournament mode’.

The national team, led by coach Jurgen Klinsmann, announced on the 27th (local time), "Due to the late game time, we will conduct afternoon training tomorrow and the day after." So far, the Klinsmann has been training around 10:30 a.m. local time. Originally, coach Klinsmann preferred morning training, so he trained at 10-11 o'clock in Korea, and coincidentally, all group stage games were played at 2:30 p.m. local time.

When planning the group stage schedule for this tournament, the Asian Cup Organizing Committee set the kickoff time for most East Asian countries, including Korea, Japan, Australia, and China, at 2:30 pm local time. This was because there was a 6-hour time difference between Korea, Japan, and Qatar. The game was held at 8:30 PM Korean time, maximizing viewership ratings and the effect of the Asian Cup match.

But now things have changed. If Korea had taken first place in Group E, they would have played in the round of 16 against Japan at 2:30 PM local time and 8:30 PM Korean time. However, as they finished second in Group E, they will compete with Saudi Arabia for a ticket to the quarterfinals at 7 PM local time, or 1 AM Korean time on the 31st. Accordingly, Klinsmann plans to train in the afternoon for the time being.

This means that the physical condition of the players will be maximized in time for the round of 16 match.

Klinsmann will begin training on the 27th around 4 p.m. Training on the 29th, which takes place the day before the game, is expected to start around the same time. The location remains the same as the Al Egla training ground in Doha.

On the other hand, Saudi Arabia is adapting to evening games by holding the 1st and 2nd group stage matches at 8:30 PM local time (2:30 AM the next day, Korean time) and the 3rd game at 6:00 PM local time (00:00 the next day, Korean time). This is the situation to some extent. In addition, Saudi Arabia is a neighboring country to Qatar, so more than 30,000 spectators flock to each game.

There are other handicaps as well. If Korea defeats Saudi Arabia, it will play the quarterfinals against the winner of the Australia-Indonesia round of 16 match at 6:30 PM local time on the 2nd and 00:30 Korean time on the 3rd. The problem is also expected to be disadvantageous.

Korea is attempting to win the Asian Cup for the first time in 64 years since losing twice in a row in the first tournament in 1956 and the second tournament in 1960. However, it is true that in the group stage, the team's chances of winning appear to have been greatly reduced due to repeated performances that were below expectations. Coach Klinsmann still promises to win and hopes for continued support from fans.
