With manager Jurgen Klopp, who led Liverpool's revival in the 21st century, indicating his intention to step down this summer, a surprise candidate, not a famous manager, has emerged as his successor.

Tottenham manager Anzhi Postekoglou is being introduced as one of the leading candidates.

Liverpool Club announced on its official website on the 26th (Korean time) that Manager Klopp has decided to step down from the baton at the end of the 2023-2024 season. 

The club said, "After leading the team to the Carabao Cup final on the 25th, Klopp announced that he would lead the 2023-2024 season and end his eight and a half years at Liverpool. Coach Pepine Rijnders, Coach Peter Kravitz, and Vitor Matos “The coach is also planning to leave the team following Klopp. Rijnders will then pursue his own managerial career,” he said. 

After signing a new contract in 2022, Klopp had a contract period remaining until the summer of 2026. However, he announced his resignation two years before his contract expired. The reason was energy depletion (burnout). He is saying that he needs a break as he has worked tirelessly since taking office in 2015.

“I understand a lot of people will be shocked when they first hear this story, but obviously, at least I can and should explain,” Klopp said in an interview with the club. “I love everything about this club, the city and the supporters. The team and the staff. "I love you and everything about it. But I'm still convinced that it's a decision I have to make. It's draining my energy," he said of his reason for leaving.
