Indonesia, which finished its group stage in third place in Group D (1 win, 2 losses, 3 points), had to watch the match against Kyrgyzstan in Group F to advance to the round of 16. In this tournament, the top four teams will advance to the round of 16 among the six groups, with the first and second teams in each group advancing to the round of 16 and the third-place teams.

The match between Kyrgyzstan and Oman ended in a 1-1 draw. In the final Group F match held at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha, Qatar on Wednesday (Korea time), Oman's Abdullah Algazani scored the first goal eight minutes into the first half.

As Oman became four points, Indonesia was eliminated from the point. Oman's lead continued until the 35th minute of the second half, which seemed to cast a shadow of elimination for Indonesia, but it revived when Kyrgyzstan's Joel Kozo scored a dramatic equalizer. Oman failed to open the Kyrgyz goal despite 17 shots on the day and remained in a 1-1 draw.

With Oman having two draws and one loss and only two points, Indonesia has secured a ticket to the last round of 16 teams. Coach Shin took Indonesia, which was on the verge of elimination, on the last train to the round of 16, and proved that luck surrounding him also works in the Asian stage.

Coach Shin Tae-yong has been successfully leading Team Indonesia since 2020. Only two Southeast Asian teams advanced to the round of 16 at this year's championship are Thailand and Indonesia.

Indonesia had the pleasure of advancing to the Asian Cup tournament for the first time in its history. "The Indonesian team has advanced to the round of 16 at the Asian Cup," Indonesian media PSSI said. "Our advance to the round of 16 has been confirmed as the last match of Group F between Kyrgyzstan and Oman ended 1-1. This is the first time that we have advanced to the knockout stage in five tournaments."

Indonesian coach Shin Tae-yong, who watched the match in his hotel room, was very happy after he was confirmed to advance to the round of 16. "The interview on the eve of the match against Japan and the day of the match. Thank you so much for playing hard until the very end," Shin wrote on his personal social network service.

Indonesia is in Group D along with Japan, Iraq and Vietnam. The team lost its first group match against Iraq 1-3, but beat Vietnam 1-0, securing one win and three points.

Even if Japan beat Vietnam 4-2, it could not advance to the round of 16 as the No. 1 ranking in Group D, as it was caught by Iraq 1-2. In the case of AFC-hosted tournaments, the winner-win rule is applied in which the teams with the same points are determined when ranking multiple teams in the group league. It is different from the FIFA World Cup, in which teams with the same points are determined based on goal difference.

Iraq beat Indonesia and Japan one after another to confirm its No. 1 ranking in Group D regardless of the outcome of its last group match against Vietnam. With only two draws and one loss to China, the host country of Group A, ahead of the final match against Japan, it had only two losses. Indonesia has increased its chance to advance to the round of 16 by beating China with a point in the competition for the third-place team.

It was impossible to advance on its own with a complete defeat of 1-3 by Japan, but Oman ended up in a draw with Kyrgyzstan on the same day, allowing them to get their hands on the last remaining tickets to the round of 16.

Shin participated in the 2018 Russia World Cup when he was a coach of the Korean national team and wrote "Miracle of Kazan." In the group league, he lost both the first and second games, but defeated the defending champion Germany 2-0 in the final game to achieve success.

In this tournament, he led Indonesia to the first tournament in history, creating a "Miracle of Doha."

Now, the next goal is to advance to the quarterfinals. It is not an easy goal. Indonesia will play against Australia, which ranked first in Group B, in the round of 16 at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday at Jasim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar. Expectations are high on how far the Shin Tae-yong Magic will continue.  스포츠토토
