Will Kyle Tucker, who is about to become a free agent for the third time, hit the jackpot?

Kyle Tucker (Houston Astros), the younger brother of Preston Tucker, who played for the KIA Tigers in the KBO League for three years since 2019, is discussing a contract extension.

Major League Trade Rumors (MLBTR) reported on the 12th (Korean time), “Houston general manager Dana Brown said he plans to discuss a contract extension with Tucker.”

Tucker entered the professional world after being selected by Houston with the 15th overall pick in the first round of the 2015 rookie draft, and entered the big league for the first time in 2018.

Tucker, who made a name for himself with a batting average of 0.269, 4 home runs, 11 RBI, and an OPS of 0.856 in 22 games in the 2019 season, emerged as a starting player with a batting average of 0.268, 9 home runs, and 42 RBI in 58 games in 2020.

His career high season came in 2021. Tucker swung a bat with a batting average of 0.294, 30 home runs, 92 RBI, and an OPS of 0.916 in 140 games.

His upward trend continued. He has a batting average of 0.257, 30 home runs, 107 RBI, and an OPS of 0.808 in 150 games in 2022. As a result, he won the World Series and won his first All-Star and American League Gold Glove.

Last year, Cutter recorded a batting average of 0.284, 29 home runs, 112 RBI, 30 stolen bases, and an on-base percentage of 0.369 and an OPS of 0.886 in 157 games. Unfortunately, he failed to hit 30 home runs for three consecutive years, but he set records for the most RBIs and most stolen bases. He also received awards. Following his second All-Star appearance, he was honored as the American League Silver Slugger. He finished fifth in American League MVP voting.

With these results, it wouldn't be strange to discuss a contract extension with Tucker. He has already discussed a contract extension several times. In May 2022, before the start of the 2023 season, Houston expressed interest in signing Tucker to a contract extension. Although the results have not been released, it proves that Houston considers Tucker very important.

MLBTR said, "Tucker is only a year away from free agency, and it could be a challenge for the club to sign an extension with a key customer," and "Houston has never signed a contract longer than six years since owner Jim Crane arrived. "A contract worth more than $150 million was not guaranteed. Houston, which has a luxury tax bill of just over $134 million next year, clearly has room to give Tucker a long-term contract, but it looks like Tucker will have to achieve better results," he pointed out.
