The return of the Triple-A home run king? Dinosaurs, batting number 4, please take care of PO

“There are good times and bad times.”

Every batter has a hitting cycle. The only difference is how big or small the curve is. NC Dinos foreign hitter Jason Martin is the former. It attracted attention from the exhibition game. Before the last game against KT on March 28th, he was in a severe slump with 1 hit in 22 at-bats.

The beginning of the season wasn't very good either. There were minor injuries, and it was not easy for him to adapt to the pitching style, which is unique to pitchers in the KBO League. He had a batting average of 0.222 in April and 0.239 in May. Afterwards, they almost bombed the KBO League from June to August. He batted .304 with 3 home runs and 15 RBI in June, .359 with 5 home runs and 20 RBI in July, and .300 with 4 home runs and 23 RBI in August.

But as his temperature began to drop, so did his hitting sensitivity. From September to October, he had a total of 123 at-bats, 30 hits, a batting average of 0.244, 3 home runs, and 23 RBI. When I was playing well, I could handle all courses and pitches, but when I was playing poorly, there were sections where I couldn't even hit the ball properly.

He clearly had his fun by raising his arms high. He was the driving force behind not being fooled by low balls and responding to high courses. A move that differs from the recent trend of lowering the arm height to reach the hitting point quickly. However, Martin batted, adjusting his arm height little by little depending on the situation. Then he couldn't find a good feeling again and the average fell.

Although he is the 2022 Triple-A Pacific Coast League home run king, he is not the type that prefers one extreme shot. It was a type that could be suitable for the KBO, but there were ups and downs. In the end, in 118 regular season games, he had a batting average of 0.283, 17 home runs, 90 RBI, 55 runs, 15 stolen bases, OPS of 0.815, and batting average of 0.317.

The bad trend at the end of the regular season continued in the postseason. He went 0-for-4 and produced 1 RBI with a sacrifice hit in the wild card game. Even in the semi-playoffs, he had 2 hits and 2 RBIs in 8 at-bats until the second game. However, in the 3rd game on the 25th, he went 4-for-4, including 2 hits, and hit three runs.

In the bottom of the second inning, trailing 4-5, with one out and runners on first and second base, SSG right-hander Noh Kyung-eun's first pitch slider was driven to the middle, and he connected with an exciting superior arc. He seemed to bend his knees for a moment. Made a center shift with all his might. In the end, this one shot led NC to the playoffs.

With this one shot, will they be able to gain momentum in the playoffs against KT Wiz? In NC's batting lineup, there is no clear player other than Martin who can deliver a hit. Although Kang Baek-ho left KT due to injury, KT has Park Byeong-ho, Jang Seong-woo, and Anthony Alford, who basically have one-shot long-hitting power. For NC, there is a high probability that the KT mound will be destroyed only when Martin explodes.

Martin said, “A runner went out in the second inning, and the ball came to the desired pitch and location, so I took a good swing. Batting can be both good and bad. It's good to see good performance in the postseason. After the adjustment period at the beginning of the season, my teammates and coaching staff helped me. The 1st to 3rd hitters performed very well throughout the season. I was able to increase my RBI by always getting on base. Winning the Korean Series is a challenge. “I can do it,” he said.
