Kang Wan-jin throws first pitch at Jamsil-gu on the 30th

The Doosan Bears in professional baseball said on the 27th, "We selected Kang Wan-jin as the first main character of the fan wish fulfillment project 'Do It For You' that fulfills the wish of the 'strongest 10 hitter'."

Kang Wan-jin, a Taekwondo national team member and a big fan of Doosan, will throw the first pitch against the KIA Tigers in Jamsil on the 30th.

Kang Wan-jin fell in love with baseball while watching the 2008 Beijing Olympics broadcast when he was a senior in elementary school, and began cheering for Doosan.

"There were so many difficult times before I became a member of the national team," he recalled, "Every time I watched Doosan baseball, I relieved my stress and settled down."

After winning the gold medal at the Asian Games last year, he said, "My wish is to throw the first pitch in Doosan's uniform."

Kang made his two wishes come true: pitching in the professional baseball league and meeting with Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop. Through this pitching, he aims to let the public know about taekwondo's pumsae sports.

There are only three business teams that embrace Pumsae players in taekwondo. Players who are in their mid-20s or older are at a crossroads of retirement to make a living. Kang Wan-jin, who is in his mid-20s, will also take off his uniform at the end of this year.

"It's an honor to have the opportunity to promote Taekwondo to baseball fans, one of the best professional sports in Korea," Kang Wan-jin said. "I have developed my dream to become a national team player by watching coach Lee Seung-yeop, whom I respect even though the sport is different. I will cheer harder than anyone else for Doosan to achieve good results this year."
