Saving Images from an Email Message or Webpage
You can add images attached to an email message or webpage to your Photo Library. Add a photo to your Photo Library: Press and hold the photo, then tap Save Image. The image is added to the Camera Roll album. You can upload your Camera Roll pictures to your computer’s photo application by connecting iPhone to your computer.

In the same way that is possible to import photos from any digital camera.
When your iPhone includes photos that were captured by your iPhone, it is also detected as a digital camera when connected to your computer, or should be.
I believe Windows includes a cameras and scanners heading via Explorer when a digital camera or scanner is connected which is where you can import or transfer these photos from your iPhone to the designated location on your computer where you store photos.
Personal note: on my PC, it shows up in my Windows Explorer as "Apple iPhone", and it's a simple click and drag to copy the photos onto my hard drive. Too bad there was nothing obvious in iTunes to copy photos from the iPhone.
