What started as a word that haunted college professor’s dreams has quickly become the U.S. Government’s worst nightmare. The word wiki is associated with some of the most useful, misleading, powerful, and pointless websites on the World Wide Web.
The word that is currently inciting political chaos on multiple continents, ironically originates in the United States’s foremost vacation paradise: Hawaii. Back in 1994 computer programmer, Ward Cunningham, hopped aboard the Wiki-Wiki Shuttle at Honolulu Airport in Oahu, HI, to travel in between terminals.
When translated to English the Hawaiian term literally means “quick.” By 1995 Cunningham had implemented the word into Internet culture by creating the first wiki, WikiWikiWeb, little did he know he created a monster.
The digital native-immigrant concept describes the generational switchover where people are defined by the technological culture which they're familiar with.

Prensky defines digital natives as those born into an innate "new culture" while the digital immigrants are old-world settlers, who have lived in the analogue age and immigrated to the digital world.
