Applies to MacBooks but can be tweaked for windows I am sure
Classroom management is also a huge piece. Make sure students know expected routines/procedures/uses of the tools.\n\nI had these concerns, too, when I first started envisioning how they would be used in class. Therefore, because the laptops were new to the students this school year, I started each class off in August with a Technology Boot Camp, in which we discussed some basics about the laptops themselves but also began a conversation about what kind of class we wanted to have now that everyone had a laptop.\n\nStudents do use the computers for a variety of tasks, most of which, but not all, are directly related to classroom learning tasks. I have no problem with students checking their English class ning or reading articles in Forbes as long as they are on track with my content.
"There will never be a technological solution for a classroom management problem"
Have suggested to teachers if you are lecturing, lecture from the back of the room, keep
A compilation of four new studies of one-to-one computing projects in K-12 schools identifies several factors that are key to the projects' success, including adequate planning, stakeholder buy-in, and strong school or district leadership. Not surprisingly, the researchers say the most important factor of all is the teaching practices of instructors-suggesting school laptop programs are only as effective as the teachers who apply them.

Some jesters were very smart and used their role as fool to talk about issues that would be off-limits otherwise. They used riddles and questions as a way to get people to think.
Study on supplying laptops to students for school use. Interesting results...low income students dropped in test scores. Will be ansious to read more analysis.
And that last point - that these children don't realize that just because a piece of software doesn't allow you to do it, doesn't mean it can't (and shouldn't) be done - is the one that is the most frightening.
My generation - the first of the so-called Digital Natives - had computers that did nothing. We hacked and kludged our way through the devices, learning to code using the tools the Digital Pioneers (like the metaphors!) created for us. This machine is simply a tool, a digital hammer, that I will use how I want.
Not for the modern student. Today's children see this box and the software as the masters. The tools that are created dictate how and what they do.
