Blake is an undercover cop working in drug lord Ra's al Ghul's cocaine operation. Though it seems relatively simple, if not dangerous, at first, he soon learns that there's more to Gotham's most notorious criminals than meets the eye.
"Then let us make a deal, Officer Blake. Let's see how far your fool's hope takes you."
“Where’s the Cat burglar?” he asks instead.
“We’re going our separate ways for a while,” Wayne says, and is that regret Blake hears—“She wanted to see her family. And…I wanted to see mine.”
Blake has been causing problems for Bane in Gotham City. When Bane finally gets his hands on Blake, he decides to keep him off the streets where he can't cause any more trouble. Prisoner to a terrifying madman, Blake tries to survive until someone saves him. In the interim, with Blake and Bane often each other's only company, they decide to learn a little about their enemy.
"Joseph cannot believe how huge and gorgeously muscular Tom's gotten for his role as Bane. ...And then on top of that, he gets to work with Christian Bale and wow, does he ever fill out that Batman suit."
"But later that night, in the silent darkness of his bedroom, when he spits in his palm and curls a hand around himself, he already knows what he’s going to be thinking about. Eyes closed, the voice summons up easily. He’s observant, has analyzed the distinctive vocoder hum the rasp of the inhale, the static stop of punctuation and sibilant hiss of the s. He knows exactly how it would sound to hear and who have you brought me today?"
Bane sends his men to bring him priest that supposedly helps Jim Gordon and his followers. Blake is at orphanage when they come to take father "what-his-name" so he puts on his clerical collar and pretends to be the priest Bane's mercenaries are looking for.
Bane is more than a little surprised when instead of some old man he meets young handsome and fierce "father" John Blake. He not only doesn't hurt him (because secretly Bane has a soft spot for people who are looking after kids)but also starts sending more food for orphanage...and sometimes he "ask" father Blake to visit him to pay for his generosity.

He has done his introspection, his self-examination: he wants this. He wants Bane. He is willing to accept any terms.
"Are you coming to bed, Charles?" Erik always asked."
"It's a good sign," he tells Gordon. "It means they want to keep us alive. Whoever they are."
Gordon smiles a little, which heartens John. Maybe that's the point because the Commissioner's eyes aren't really smiling; they're tired, dark with private knowledge."

Princess Talia and Bane overthrow King Bruce, taking control of the Kingdom Gotham. Robin Blake opposes her rule along with his band of men. Eventually Blake realises Bruce is still alive and rescues him. Shortly afterwards Blake is captured by Bane.
The League leaves Gotham to its death throes. Bane brings John Blake with them.
While Talia dies trying to bring Gotham's reckoning, Bane recovers from his wounds. This leaves a broken protector with no one to protect. In this broken psychological state he latches onto the next person that he feels needs him as their new protector.
John Blake was just trying to give Gotham hope.
Barsad just needs someone to worship.
"Tell me, is it enough that you are alive, or would you prefer to live?
"Sorry to break this to you, but I'm saving myself for marriage," he says unsteadily, his breath harsh and scraping in his throat and way, way too fast. Bane's hand slides up his inner thigh on its way to his groin, its calluses scraping against his skin. "It's a life choice. Can I interest you in a walk on the beach instead? We can hold hands and everything."
"Still defiant," Bane says. "He is brave, this one. I understand why you and the Commissioner favor him." The amusement in his voice invites them to join in the joke. Somehow, neither of them are laughing. John can see Batman staring at them with hot eyes, rage replacing the cooler anger of before. "Will he be as fierce when he is begging under me, do you think?"

Answers the question: what if Bane were also up there on the mountain in Batman Begins?
After following Commissioner Gordon down into the sewers, rookie cop John Blake finds that he's bitten off a whole lot more than he can chew. Imprisoned by Bane, John begins to question where the line is drawn between cop and thug. He used to have such a black and white image of what that dichotomy was, but now he's not so sure.
If there are any two men less likely to share their toys than Bane and Bruce, John doesn't want to meet them. Also? John is not a toy, goddammit.

“Are you here to kill me?” Blake had asked when he came home to find Barsad and several other henchmen in his apartment. Barsad had stepped forward, a hand rising until the backs of his fingers were almost brushing Blake’s cheek.
“No,” he’d said, small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth as he gave his head a small shake. “To reward you.”

Barsad had always been theirs to take. Now was simply the time to claim him.
