Pathological narcissism has been compared to the Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly the Multiple Personality Disorder). By definition, the narcissist has at least two selves, the True and False ones. His personality is very primitive and disorganised. Living with a narcissist is a nauseating experience not only because of what he is – but because of what he is NOT. He is not a fully formed human – but a dizzyingly kaleidoscopic gallery of ephemeral images, which melt into each other seamlessly. It is incredibly disorienting.
That the narcissist possesses a prominent False Self as well as a suppressed and dilapidated True Self is common knowledge. Yet, how intertwined and inseparable are these two? Do they interact? How do they influence each other? And what behaviours can be attributed squarely to one or the other of these protagonists? Moreover, does the False Self assume traits and attributes of the True Self in order to deceive?
Narcissists are not prone to "irresistible impulses" and dissociation (blanking out certain stressful events and actions). They more or less fully control their behavior and acts at all times. But exerting control over one's conduct requires the investment of resources, both mental and physical. Narcissists regard this as a waste of their precious time, or a humiliating chore. Lacking empathy, they don't care about other people's feelings, needs, priorities, wishes, preferences, and boundaries. As a result, narcissists are awkward, tactless, painful, taciturn, abrasive and insensitive.

Is multiple personality disorder common?
However - my clinical psychology lecturer told us in 2nd year that maybe we all have numerous identities. For example maybe there's another you in your subconscious who is completely different to how you are. But the lecturer said that our other identities are not meant to surface which is why in those people that do exhibit multiple personalities, they are diagnosed as having an illness.
Not at all; I estimate that one person in around 5,000 is affected.

It is apparent that there are different criteria for diagnosing it in various countries, with rates varying by orders of magnitude, according to wikipedia.

I know 2 languages, and that grammar isn't working in either. I'm not trying to be grammar police, I just literally can't understand what you said.

26 September 2013: Jessica Clark loves nothing more than going shopping and snuggling up with a DVD with her fiancé Gareth, but at any moment her life can be taken over by one of her four other personalities. Jessica has Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and shares her life with bisexual Jamie, his Buddhist brother Jake, gay anorexic Eddie, or 10-year-old Oliver.
Although at times it is exhausting, Jessica and Gareth can't imagine their lives any other way. They both joined Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on ITV's This Morning to talk about what life is like living with multiple personalities, along with psychologist Dr Jane McCartney, who explained more about the disorder.
Jessica recalled how it seemed to start when she was six, and she remembers playing with a character called Jake and realising that he was just in her head. Her alters can communicate with each other in her head, and they all get on. She added that it can be very noisy and eventful. She's had to learn to control the problem.

Would a person with D.I.D. have an affect like different handwriting?
Also, if a person with D.I.D. Took a polygraph test (lie dectector test) on a thing that happened while in their "other" identity, would it be able to show?
For example if their other identity did something, and the real identity took the test about a thing portraying to what the other identity did, would it show that their not lieing that they never did it, if they don't recall any of that?
Hope that clears that question up, thanks.

It usually comes out when he is playing outside, and it's getting worse every day! Yesterday he thought he was an astronaut and the day before that he thought he was a race car driver. I don't know what to do and i can't stand to see him like this. It breaks my heart. He switches personalities often and I need to get him help and possible really really heavy medication if I can. Grounding him doesn't work. He's personalities include detective, police man, firefighter, and power ranger. Oh God I don't know what to do!

Hi guys. My friend thinks she mas multiple personality disorder, and here are the traits that she has:
- names all of them herself
- turn into them as she pleases
- her personalities do a convincing 'act' of her
- they have their own rooms in her mind, and they can wish for whatever they want
- one of them is evil and takes over parts of her body at times
- one of them is british, and she still has a bit of a british accent once she comes out of it
Everyone she's told and myself do not believe she has it, but I really don't know.
What do you think?

Hi guys!
My friend, call her K, has 'DID'. I personally do not believe it, nor does anyone else, but who knows. She has about 7 of them (all whom she named), they have their own rooms in her mind and they can wish for anything they want in there, they have their weeks where they go 'crazy' (she started 'hallucinating'), and she can change in and out of them when she pleases.
he also sees these things called 'piskies' (pixies are evil) and she can see them above everyone's head, but only the ones that are 'sane'. Her best friend who's a dude also has DID, and her boyfriend too, and her friends with benefits.
What's going on!?
And one of her personalities is evil, and takes over her hand and writes mean things to her, and takes over her mouth and says mean things.:/
