This lesson plan is designed for 3rd to 5th graders. It could be used in Reading and Language Arts, Social Studies, Math and Technology. The main objective of this lesson is to have students define religion as a set of shared beliefs and practices, recognize that our country includes many different belief systems, and that many people do not follow any religion at all. It also examines the religious diversity in the United States. I would use this lesson in my classroom to teach inclusion inside the classroom. I would make students understand that we come from different backgrounds and that we have to learn how to value and respect different points of view, cultures, languages, religions, rituals, etc. I will also teach how to value each other's backgrounds.
