5 years ago, a new type of virus, named the Bugster Virus, infected humanity and turning them into a creature called a Bugster. In the present day, an intern and also a genius gamer, Emu Hojo receives the Gamer Driver and the Mighty Action X Gashat to transform into Kamen Rider Ex-Aid. Along with several doctor Riders, Emu must compete to save people from the Bugster Virus and become the "super doctor" who'll save humanity! GAME START!
"Ex-Aid" is one of those seasons where you have to understand it from a stand-point. This is a Kamen Rider season made for a whole new audience than initially intended back in 1971. Rider fans of the Shōwa-era are going to find this garbage, but listen from a neutral source right here.
I enjoy Ex-Aid for what it is. Much like Gaim making fruits marvelous, it does the same for chibi avatars in Ex-Aid. Its story is as basic as it can be, make sure the civilians are safe from the antagonist and defeat them. Ex-Aid uses the advantage of the current CGI tactics to get away with some scenes, and for the most part, it is decent. True that Ex-Aid should have used more practical tokusatsu techniques, but given its theme, you can't really blame it.
The designs are either a hit-or-miss. Either you like it, or you don't. I will admit, it threw me off initially, but it has grown on me, and the Level 1 suits are generally cute. The only major flaw in the series is being too flashy and bright in its special effects. By episode 5, you'd wish they could tone it down a whole lot.
All in all, it's pretty decent. Ignore the designs and stick to the plot. You have just a decent or good time.
I just don't get it. I can't believe this has this high of a score. I have never in my life seen anything this trash and I've watched Kamen Rider Shin. This show doesn't follow any known rules that it establishes. The deaths are meaningless. The suits are some of the worst. The cheesy characters have almost no redeeming qualities. The only ones that are at least decent is Dan Kuroto who hams up Everything. Then there's Bike Man I.E. Kamen Rider Lazer I.E. Kiriya Kujo I.E. The Guy Who Wore The Hawaiian Shirt who as one of the best characters is thrown to the side. All the games are references. cute =_=. The specials effects are so in your face that they become just colors and noise. The first bugsters or "Meatballs" as I call them are laughable at best. Now if you have read this far I would like to say I enjoy me some good tokusatsu like Kyurangers and W. Pretty ex-aided for Build though (I am not sorry). YOU GOTTA BELIEVE~!~
